Virgil Donati

Virgil Donati! A great drummer from Australia, with many concerts and records behind him. Virgil is one of those drummers who started his drumming very early and left the school just to get more out of him, playing the drums. Virgil is Italian descent but born in Melbourne, Australia. His parents were a big influent on his musical future, he was only 3 year old when he started drumming, he played with his dad along, at the age of 5 he was concerting with his dad‚’s band. When he turned 7, he started learning and taking lessons from great, famous teachers as Brian Czempinski and later Graham Morgan, a real legend in Australia. „Cloud Nine”, this was the name of the rock band that Virgil was playing for the first time, he was nearly 16. Virgil left school for drumming, and he chose right, he studies and practised hard to get to this level of drumming, everyday practise became a his life. When he turned 19 Virgil traveled to America to studie with the best. As he listened to jazz music, Virgil quickly became a fan of those great jazz drummers, trying to emulate their solos. When he was 21 he return to Australia to start a career and then was the big turn, Virgil started doing concerts and many recording, he played in Jazz and in the same time in Rock bands. But the everyday practise did not fade away. Many drummers come to mind who have had a hand in raising the bar leading by example with faster chops, innovative use of the instrument, more complex rhythms, more creative phrasing, and in general, better musicmanship. But few have turned as many heads as Virgil Donati.
